check system requirements for the game, then check you computers hardware exp. RAM, Video and CPU speed

start,+all programs, +acessories,+ system tools
also try turning off unnecessary programs

I bought a pc game for my kids to play. I have installed it, but when we try to play it, nothing happens. We click on the icon, the hourglass comes on for a few seconds...and then...nothing. I have windows xp and a newer computer, so I'm not sure where to begin in figuring it out. Any troubleshooting ideas?
