You just need a version newer than 3.0. I think the current version is 3.1.1.

So does the newer version of open office open the microsoft files? If so is the link below to the new version? Thanks so much for the help

They might have been sending docx files, and you had an older version of Open Office. Older versions of Word can't open those files, either.

I don't think that program will let you edit microsoft documents will it? I had it on a pc before and loved it, but kept getting sent documents that were formated in microsoft and it wouldn't let me change anything on them.

ok, I am not sure what we would need. So I am hopeing some of you tech people can help me. I am needing programs like microsoft word, excel, accounting program. I am hopeing to find one resonably priced which I figure is a joke huh? But any help would be great, I am kinda used to microsoft word/excel so something similar to that and must be able to open and edit the microsoft files.

Also who in this county has a good buy in a desktop computer with lots of memory and a lcd monitor for resonible price? I haven't started looking just yet, just though someone on here may have a place for me to check out. Thanks
