It's not normal, and I would take it back and get it replaced if it was me. It should be whisper quiet when it's running.

Is the crackling noise coming from the speakers, or does it sound like it's coming from the fans?

I bought a new Toshiba laptop yesterday and there is a slight crackling noise when it is on. Is that normal?
