new hard drive, black screen

I don't see that you have anything to lose by going back and cloning the drive. If it will boot to a cloned-drive, at least you know what the problem is...something went wrong with the install.

I started with a clean drive out of the box and used my Windows XP Pro retail CD to do the format and install.

Didnt actually clone the drive.

Thanks for your response

Hmmm. Try putting the old drive in and see if it boots properly with it.

Sounds like whatever you used to clone the drive didn't make a bit-perfect copy, and something got intercoursed-up.

I put a new hard drive in my computer, (have done it before on another one) and when windows xp boots, I get the familiar red and black screen boot screen, then the monitor goes black.

Anyone know what I need to do to correct this?
