If you haven't come up with a solution for your issue, send me a PM. You have a variety of options that you won't even know about.

Yes, you can hook any tv that has the red, white, and yellow input output such as with your dvd players. I don't know the technical term for what that is called. Maybe RCA input? A tech person can tell you more. All i know is that the roku comes with one of those cords and the back has the input and output for the cord. You can also use a hdmi cord instead to hook it to the newer tvs that have hdmi. The roku does not come with the hdmi cord.

Can you hook up any LCD TV to stream internet shows/Netflix shows via Roku thru WIFI signal or do you have to have a "Smart TV"?

I think Roku is a great choice. You can download a lot of other free channels also. Go to the Roku site and do a side by side comparison of all Roku models. If you are interested in watching TV in bed and hooking an earphone into the remote so you don't disturb a spouse, you might like the two more expensive models. If you decide you want a Roku you can order direct from the site or if you are in a hurry you can go to Walmart and buy immediately. The best price you will get is at Ollie's. They have one right now that is 47.99. It is the Roku 2 XD. That one doesn't have the remote earphone jack though.

You can purchase any Roku box or a blu-ray player that has smart app capabilities. Also there are different kinds of streaming boxes available and just not Roku brand. So just look around at different boxes when shopping and look for the netflix logo on the box. Some examples are RCA,D-Link,Net-gear, Vizio .

I'd like to get Netflix...but, I don't have a game system to hook it up to, for watching it on my television...

so, when shopping for the "converter box" to use for Netflix...what exactly am I looking for???

I have Direct TV already, if that makes a difference...I have no clue...as you can tell!
