Chris is right about acer, i had the misfortune nearly owning what acer claimed to be theyre top line laptop . . . It was a complete utter peice of garbage. Ill never opt for acer again.

Also I would go check out http://www.newegg.com and see what laptops they have for you. Not only do they offer cheap prices, and the best Customer Service, but also they offer you customer reviews, so that it will help in deciding on what you want to get. Also from personal experience, I wouldn't go with anything Acer. I bought one from walmart for $500, then I had to put $1000 into it because it was just garbage. You pay for what you get, and with Acer, you don't get that much.

Don't buy the low end of any brand! Cheap Computers are just that ,,,,, cheap
Don't buy the latest and greatest! There is really no need to own the biggest and fastest Laptop in the County.
Consider smaller and lighter if you plan to carry it a lot. Larger screen if you have vision problems.
As Chris said the HP is a good brand, but the larger screen sizes have a tendency to overheat the video chip.
I personally prefer the Acer, Gateway family they offer good reliability at a reasonable price.

I'm a big fan of either Toshiba or HP products when it comes to laptops. I would get one now, so that it's future proof later. It all depends how much you want to spend compared to the quality you'll get.

I need a new laptop --nothing fancy or expensive. Just want it to surf the internet, send email and maybe do a little stock trading with. What do you suggest? How about the Google Chromebook? I am not very PC literate and the less I have to worry about the better!
