What you had was /is not a Virus. It is a hijack spyware. AVG is good but you should download a Spyware program and scan. AVG has a Spyware program but you should add another. You should use at least 4 different ones. You can download several good one for free at Filehippo.com.When scanning your system you should unhook your computer from the internet.

Opencasket....Thank you for your help. I downloaded the program from your link (the free version) and I am no longer getting the message now. It seems to be working fine now. Your help/advice is greatly apprec iated. As for my Norton 360 program, I bought it back in September 2009 so it is fairly new but evidently it still doesn't catch everything.

I picked this one up on two different laptops, one running Norton 360, the other Norton EndPoint Security - neither one alerted to it. Both check for updates every half hour from Norton.

Sadly, it was served to me via a java applet via a banner ad on a popular forum.

This is not a virus

http://download.cnet.com/30...

Click that & it should automatically start downloading.

But.... I dont understand why Norton wouldnt alert you of a virus, unless you havent been updating it.

I have the Norton 360 Antivirus program on my computer (in which I paid for) but apparently it didn't work. BTW....I am still able to use my computer, it just keeps popping up ever so often and I have to keep pulling up GoWilkes each time...and it's getting worse. Very frustrating!!!

How can you be sure that these free versions of antivirus programs are safe and not a virus also?

What ever you do don't download any new antivirus, I did that last year and it turned out to be a virus.

Another option, download AVG anti virus (the free version). Update it & scan your computer.

I'm assuming you're using another computer, so you can burn it to a disk & upload it on yours.

some of those viruses try and get you to give them credit card information so their program will debug your computer .... it's trying to get you to buy their program ? Needless to say buying their program won't solve a thing

try to do a free online scan / removal program (don't bother with TrendMicro's HouseCall ... they pop up first because they pay search vehicles but they'll scan and then make you buy before they will remove)

I caught one of those and had to put my laptop next to my desktop because the infected desktop was being blocked going to websites that would help .... eventually I googled and tried enough places I was able to follow the instructions on my laptop and debug the registry on my desktop

Sounds like your anti virus prog settings may be too high or too sensitive. Try changing your browsing safety level to a lower setting....

I have gotten a virus on my PC and need to get rid of it ASAP!! Whenever I go onto the Internet, I get a message stating "

This website has been reported as unsafe

We strongly recommend to discontinue the use of this website.
Activate my Web protection software
This website has been reported to Microsoft for containing threats that might steal personal of financial information from your computer”

Has anyone else received this? If so, how do you get rid of it?
