Have you used Nero in the past? This is a known problem with Nero.

Did you install CD or DVD burning software? Sometimes that messes up the drives.

Open the case, there should be at least two cables running to the drive - a power cable and one other, either a wide flat cable or a skinny black one. Make sure both are plugged in well on both ends. It might be worth unplugging both ends and then plugging it back in - make sure the PC is off when doing this, and unplugged.

If it's a hardware problem, it won't see the drive, regardless of when you restore to. The BIOS feeds the drive info to the operating system each time you boot.

My dvd/cdrom is missing or not showing up on my computer,it just started doing this last night, when i put a disk in its says i need a dvd / cdrom, but i dont know what happened or where it went, it was there, but now its not., i tried to restore to an ealier date, but that didnt work. i know the dvd/cdrom is good. Thanks
