my tv is hdmi, i'll have to check my pc, thanks pk

this is my livingroom tv http://www.plasma.com/jvclc...

it might be possible to connect it with a longer extension with the main cord, i'll have to check.

that would probably be the easiest way & cheapest, right? I wouldnt mind just unplugging from my monitor to the tv, just to watch movies.

It depends on your current video card. Does it have a hdmi or dvi or s-video out? If so, you can likely plug it into a current TV - it will see it as a 2nd monitor. If not, you can purchase a $20 video card on ebay that has the output you need - but it does involve running a cable to the TV, and another to your stereo - unless you have great speakers on the PC or it is already run to the stereo.

The quality with xvid would most likely be fine. Most of the 720p rips I get are in xvid. The part I said that sucked was how a MediaMVP handles them - not very well - so I went with connecting my TV directly to my PC.

Here's my basic setup -
TV with dvi input
Computer with DVI output on a secondary video card (ok, I actually only have one card - but it has triple outputs, so I can use two other monitors while watching video on the TV)
Mediaportal software (free!)
Moving Pictures plugin for Mediaportal
MyTV Series plugin for Mediaportal
uTorrent
another free software program called 'ted' that automagically finds my favorite TV episodes, and downloads them where they are automagically imported into mediaportal. Completely hands off acquisitions, except for pressing play when I want to watch. I haven't had cable/satellite in 6 months now, and don't even notice it.

And of course various other websites to get movies, r5s, screeners, rips, etc.

if your tv has a hdmi port you can connect directly from your pc to your tv
with the right cable. as far as quality i get better than vhs quality to dvd quality from xvid/avi/quicktime,divx. if they are dvd rip or r5's
where are you getting your files ?

So, the quality would still be poor with xvid? Would it be best to just buy a bigger monitor? I'm so sick of converting & burning

Nah. I sold my ps3 couple years ago. Exactly which port would be compatible, would this work - SPDIF out (coaxial)?

Well, yes. The end result is that you'll need some type of TV-OUT on your computer to connect to something like this:

OR - something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Haupp...

I have the WIRED version of the MVP, and its crap for the type of movies know you want to see. It struggles hard with divx/xvid, regardless of how powerful your PC is.

If you don't want to run a cable from your PC directly to your TV, I think the cheaper solution would be to use an old Xbox as a media extender under MCE. If you already have an Xbox 360 or a ps3, you already have what you need to use it as an extender.

You can also use a Wii, but TVersity is a pita to get configured.

Is there a way to send a projection of my monitor to my television (wireless) ?

My television has usb connections
