What kind of router do you have, and are you downloading torrents? If you use torrents even lightly, and have a Linksys router, it is possible it is running out of memory and crashing.

I'm on a Charter 5mbps cable connection and frequently I find myself with no connection. I shut down the computer , unplug the power to the modem and router (wired) for a minute,. fire back back up and I'm back connected again.

Why are these re-sets necessary, and what exactly is happening when I do one?

How often should a proceedure like this be necessary?
