Generally speaking, if you log in and leave "Sign me in automatically" checked, then it will keep you logged in for 1 month. But each time you revisit the site, it resets the expiration date, so it could potentially keep you logged in forever. If you don't have this option checked, then you will automatically be logged out when you close the browser window.

To my knowledge, though, the library would be a special case. They automatically reset all settings on their computers each night, so you would be automatically logged out. This helps them to prevent viruses and spyware.

I guess my question is for Jason. I am wondering about the log off on the site. If someone goes off line and doesn' t log off will the site eventually log you off? I know I have been on other sites that do this.

The reason I ask is something odd happened yesterday. I went to the library with BF. (They have ancestry . com for free.) I decided to go on GOWILKES first. When I went to the site I was reading and looking at things and noticed that I was signed in. I thought that was odd. I looked and it was another person's name and password. I thought OH NO she didnt' log out. I logged her out because I felt I was infringing on her privacy. I wondered how this could happen. ( Maybe she had just left while I was walking in the building. ) I don't know what someone could do under another persone user name but it worried me.

I did go to tools and clean up the computer. I do that on any computer that I use. The history, cookies, files, etc. That way someone can't go to my sites I visited. I don't use my bank or cc sites on a public computer but some people do. BF said I should have left a message for the OP but I told him I didn't know how and besides I logged out immediately and do not remember the username.
