Is this happening with headphones plugged into the audio jack as well, or only the internal speakers?

Have you re installed the factory driver ? You should be able to get is from the manufactures website.

I have a compaq cq60 laptop. It has always worked really well. The one day I started it up and the sound was messed up. The sound will work for maybe a minute and then it has a frying sound and the sound will quit. i can shut it down, start it up again and the same thing happens, always. Anybody have a clue.
