Well if it is a wireless router the answer is no.
You need to configure it correctly

Your current router might be outdated. I bought a laptop last September and hadn't updated my router for something like two years, so I had to buy a new with a different signal type. Check what type of signal your laptop looks for and why type your router gives out.

I bought a laptop from Walmart, but it won't connect with my internet. Do I need a router for it?
