If you have a way of burning a CD, there are many flavors of XP out there that you can download - though you will need your OWN VALID cd/install key for them - that have been processed through utilities such as NLite, etc to make them under 200Mb installed. they run VERY quickly on older laptops (such as 400mhz, etc) with only 128mb of RAM.

Double check the releases though, they remove various components to slim them down - Some remove networking support (needed for Internet access), others remove print support, USB support, etc to get it to its quick and slim size.

I've put XP on some remarkably wimpy laptops over the years, including an old Toshiba with an ancient 400mhz AMD processor, and 128MB of RAM.

It shouldn't have worked, but it did. After adding a wireless card, it was my "netbook" (for "belly computing" in the bedroom at night), long before I got my original Asus EEE PC.

Your laptop may not be able to handle XP. Depends on how much Ram it has. If it is old enough to have 98 on it you may be better off buying a new one.

You don't need to connect to the internet to add XP. Just insert an installation disk, and go.
