Clicking disk more than likely indicates a bad head on the hard drive. If you can go into the BIOS on your pc, and the drive is still detectable then it might have a good chance of being recovered using it as a slave drive instead of the mbr drive. The best thing to do is see if it's still being detected on the BIOS, if it is, then unplug it from your computer, and providing you have another computer to use, plug it into that computer, and providing it's still readable then Windows should automatically detect it as a new drive and let you access the files on it, you may have to assign it a drive letter yourself on disk management, but hopefully not.

I agree with Retired Vet. The hard drive suffered a disk crash due to worn out bearings in the platter array.

Clicking noise = bad hard drive

laptop crashed a week or so ago did recovery with recovery disk just crashed a second when it starts to start up its make a clicking noise and then ask for boot disk thanks for any help as to what might be wrong
