when embarq at work or at my moms does this I just turn the box off on the back for a few seconds like 30 and turn back on and that fixes it almost every time.

power cycle (unplug ) the modem, count to 10 plug it back in see if you can get online, if you can and it goes out again in 5 minutes or 2 hours or goes out again , your modem is going bad, i see this everyday. When a modem goes bad it will go off and on , when you power cycle it will work for a little while. classic sign of a bad modem.

sassy, I've had embarq for a year now and have not had any problems. (except for the occasional power outage during storms and such as!) If you're getting any type of error messages, it's probably within your programs. If you're using IE7-try adjusting your security settings under the tools settings.

I have Embarq for over three years and have never had a problem. Do you have a anti-virus like AVG or Avast, have you tried to run a spyware program like Adaware or Spybot. You also might need to empty your temporary internet files out and run MS updates. If you have these run the updates and run the full scans for each one. Hope that helps.

Try changing your DNS servers to ones NOT supplied by Embarq. Their's are way over-extended, causing the problem you're seeing. Not to mention, they are one of many ISP's that actually block some websites without telling you they are doing so.
Opendns https://www.opendns.com/start is a free DNS service. I'd recommend trying it, at least - you can always change back to the default Embarq servers if you like pain. The link above shows you how to change it, takes about 45 seconds to do so. Try it on your PC first before making the change to your router, if you have one.

You could try this. Place a 2-way splitter in the mainline. Run one side unfiltered to your DSL modem. Place a DSL filter in the other side and attach the line to it that will service all of your phones.

I did. I called Customer Service and complained. They sent me a whole set of DSL filters to place at each phone jack. That fixed it.

sassy...i have embarq. And honestly, I've had much better luck with them than I did with Charter. I'm sure you'll get about 50/50 on the Charter/Embarq argument. But honestly, I've had nothing but good service from Embarq...and haven't had the problems you speak of. So maybe it is your computer?

does anyone else have embarq and frequently get the "internet explorer cannot display this webpage" thing ? this really gets on my nerves?? i've only had my computer for 1 year ,so im thinking its not my computer... i usually just shut down the power and try again after about 5 minutes ,but that too is getting old!!!
