well what kind of modem? Can you log on to it and see a signal level in DB's? If so make sure the db is stable and not moving up or down. If it is you need a tech.
Also Google TCPIP tweak speed guide.net

I'm using command prompt...and doing the following....ping -t google.com....google is a simple site to ping and when i start getting packet loss and a latency of 1000ms then I think it's my ISP. I have tested it without my router, meaning my pc hooked straight to modem and it still does it. It's gotta be something on their end but they won't do anything about it. It kinda pisses me off. In my opinion, it's Network congestion because they don't have enough bandwidth to push out to their customers. It does it at random times during the day and night. What do you think?

How are you testing the speed and latency? Against a specific website? Multiple websites?
Try speedtest.net and MULTIPLE servers when you do the test, not just the ones closest to you.
Are you using wifi? Is it secured? Is a neighbor injecting packets into it trying to get your wep/wpa keys, and slowing your router down significantly?

Does anyone know why internet speed drops randomly throughout the day? The speed drops lower than 512k and i have 1.5Mbps. ISP is Wilkes.net. I never use to have this problem but it has been horrible the past few months. I can be getting good ping times and then out of no where the ping goes from 50-70ms to 800-1000ms! It happens randomly. Ive noticed it happens around 10:20am on weekdays then again around 12ish and then again around 3-6 and then at night around 8pm throughout the night it does it. Ive noticed this morning that it happened around 9:40am and it's a saturday. That's why i say it's random. Someone please help. If you work at Wilkes Telecom. then don't reply because your to sorry to send someone out to look or even try to fix it. Ok any suggestions anyone?
