Sorry to keep adding new questions but I found these computers cheaper on ebay so I am still deciding. In your opinions, which would be the best computer and bargain between these two:

Thank you for your advice thus far and any in the future. I don't know a lot about computers and I want this to last as long as possible. I have not had luck with laptops in past and want to make a good decision on a budget. I just need it to web search and possibly write papers and things on.

Either shell will be good for me as long as it works good. :) Thanks again.

I'm thinking about getting one, I think you can buy something at staples to make dsl wireless

oops - you're right, it wasn't you that posted those specs.

Honestly? Either one would perform about the same. Do you want a rubbery black shell, or a slick metallic colored shell?

I'm not sure which specs you meant that didn't match. I haven't listed any specs except for the link I listed in that last post I did. Do you mean the specs that Hijack listed? The computer that I am actually looking at is the last link I posted for the Staples ad. I was debating between the IBM and the Dell. Your post was very helpful though since you have had so much experience with the IBMs. Thank you.

The specs in your first post do not match the specs listed to the T42 you linked to at Staples.

That being said - the Dell does not state that it has wireless (wifi) built in. The IBM does. The IBM also has a better video card (even a mobile Radeon 7500 will perform better than a built in Intel)

Which would last longer? It's like a car, no way of knowing. I don't have any personal experience with that Dell, but I'm typing on a T42 right now, Have a T61, a T62, a T40, and a T400 (all IBM/Lenovo) at the office that I use for various things, and they are built for rugged 10 hour days, every day of the week. Other than sticking my thumb through the screen on the T400 twice (dont ask), no hardware issues to report.

It's fine for school/internet use. Heck, some large business's still haven't replaced them yet for their worker drones. (Are you reading, boss?)

As long as that battery is in good shape, it should give you an easy 4 hour runtime per charge.

These are for sale for 299.00 at staples.com. They are refurbished. Not a lot of details are given. Does anyone know how old this computer would be. Is that a good deal? Are they good for internet use and school work?
