I dont have a problem with the uninformed asking questions. Its when they start giving advice.
Dont get one of those converters from Ebay. Those types of boxes are a huge pain to get resolutions set correctly. If your computer doesnt have an HDMI port, then you need a VGA cable and 3.5mm to RCA adapter for the audio. All LCD panels have a VGA input.
But, be aware, if your laptop doesnt have HDMI, getting your computer to connect to another display, and getting the resolution and everything correct is a real pain. I dont really suggest it for most users. And every time you disconnect then reconnect, you will have to go through the process again. You would be much better off to go buy a new Samsung BluRay player. It will give you Netflix, Vudu, Hulu, and other internet streaming services. And be much easier to set up and use.

My laptop doesn't have a hdmi port. The tv does. I definitely am a moron when it comes to technology. That's why I ask for advice.

Please. all the morons stop talking about technology.
Simple answer to this question. Does the laptop have an HDMI out? Most do now, and have been this way for the last couple of years. If it does, all you need is an HDMI cable.
But really, all LCD screens have a VGA input. However, using the HDMI connection is much easier and simpler to set up.

Bennett I have a Toshiba Satellite. It has a headphone jack. Not sure about a sound card. I have used one of the contraptions SCB showed a link to. I hook it to my laptop and then an older model big screen TV(haven't tried it on the newer TV because it is so hard to hook up) and then I run a headphone cord from the laptop to the tv. I was just hoping there would be an easier way to hook it up to the newer TV. Thank you so much for your help.

Hello Daddy P
All the information says the tv only has 3 HDMI ports. So no it will not. You can still hook it up to a pc with a different cable however sound may be the issue.
What you would need is a male hdmi to female VGA (blue connector) and VGA male to male cable OR a male hdmi to female DVI (white connector) and a DVI male to male cable
Nether of these cable set up have sound so you would need a set of external speakers hook them up to the sound card or head phone jack on the tower or laptop
If your PC's video card has both connecters I would recommend the DVI set up Either set up will cost around 15 -25 bucks
or for 19 dollars more buy the Specta And buy the cable form ebay

Bennett78 would the cord you posted for 4.99 work on my television. I don't think mine has input for pc, but it does have a hdmi input. Could you tell me if there is any cord I could get to hook mine to my laptop that would be simple? My laptop doesn't have a hdmi port, but it has VGA input. Here is a link to the television I am using. It's cheap but new http://www.walmart.com/ip/E...4/17165467

You dont need that adopter. at all.
Need a VGA male to male cable (it is the blue connector) 3.5 mm audio cable Run for headphone jack on laptop to jack on the back of tv.
Then with remote select PC as source on the tv screen.
Boot PC
Also the cables should cost less the 20 bucks

The thing at Best Buy is called a Logitech Revue. They had one on display and I actually tried to get to Hulu with it and CBS and it said it did not support that even though the thing says you can browse any website on your television.

I know someone who bought a new television ( http://www.bestbuy.com/site...p;st=dynex 42 inch tv&cp=1&lp=10 ).
I want to buy them as a gift something to hook the televison to a laptop. I don't have access to the television other than the ad so I can't really look it over to see all the details. I know it says it connects to pc. I don't know a lot about televisions so I am at a loss as what to buy to connect it. Best Buy said that I could buy some little box and keyboard called Logitech but I know this person wants to be able to watch CBS shows and some other shows that you can only watch on the internet on Hulu. Hulu plus does not show them. You can only actually watch them on a computer. They have an older laptop. I think it's about four years old and I have no idea what inputs or outputs it has. I'm sure it probably has a VGA or monitor connector. Whatever you call that thing.
A couple of years ago I bought myself one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB...8476935367 and it works fine as a projector type thing and then I have to hook up an audio wire from the laptop to the tv to get sound. It's a lot of trouble, but I have a cheaper laptop too and an older tv so it's expected. Since this person has a brand new television with pc input I figure there has got to be an easier way to hook to a laptop. What can I buy for them to easily hook up. Is there something that would give sound and video or do I need to buy the same thing I bought myself? Thank you for any advice.
