File sharing is on. Both computers are showing the same IP address. But neither computer is showing - or will let me set up - a work group.

Thanks!

Make sure both computers are on the same ip address set, like 192.168.0.x. IP addresses are allowed on any firewalls, or just turn the firewalls off. Make sure both are on the same workgroup name and filesharing is on.
Networks can be tricky, I have some weird problems with them too sometimes. I'm not that familiar with vista though. Hopefully that will help some.

I have been trying (unsuccessfully) off and on for several months to set up a home network. We have two desktop computers - one running XP and one running Vista. They are both connected to a wired router and sharing DSL internet, but I cannot get them to recognize each other or share files or printers.

I have run Windows Network Wizard to no avail. Networking has never been my strong suit, so if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks in advance!
