It depends on where you live. I live on the eastern edge of the county and I had embarq for 4 years because thats all I could get. It was worthless here, worked 3-4 days a week at half the speed they stated. If I didnt have to have it for work I would have dropped them before i did. last year my neighbor and I pestered Time Warner until they ran Road Runner down our road, so I switched. Hasn't failed one day yet, sometimes it gets slower than others. I would check around your neighborhood.

with charter, the contract i signed was 29.99/month for 12 months. i dont know what happens after the 12 month period is over, but all i signed for was 12 months at that price. i have been caught in gimmicks before so i make sure i read the fine print. do a little research on everyone who offers HSI in your area and figure out the best one for you. i know with embarq, they wanted to charge more because of where i lived. good luck!

Wilkes Telecommunications. I pay 24.95 a month and have had it for 2 years now. I had Charter for 3 years prior and started out paying 39.99. They went up to 59.99 so I had it disconnected. WTC offered a start up fee of 19.95 for the first 12 months if you donate 10.00 worth of back to school supplies and then it went up to 24.95 and hasn't changed since. My speed is just as fast as charter was, also.

I've tried the rest and found the best, EMBARQ. I would not go to Charter for anything. I have Directv for cable and those commercials on TV about losing your signal are FALSE. Embarq can make you a deal on HSI for 25.00 a month for new customers as long as you keep the service. Just tell them your switching to them.

I had charter is was $30 for the first 6 month then went to $60. I switched to Embarq for $40. Then Charter offers me the same speed for $30 fixed for 2 years. I said no thanks you should have gave that to me to start with.

Look for a package deal. Exp. Phone TV and Internet. You can come out cheaper that way. Also the speed for your internet can make a difference. Beware of a start out cheap deal. It will go up after a few months

i got the cheapest by going through charter. i love it & i pay 30.00... everyone else wanted 49.99 or higher. go into the office in n.wilkesboro- dont try to do it online or on the phone. you get better deals "locally" if you go in and actually talk with someone. hope this helps!
