i tried your ideas..."Obtain IP address automatically" is already checked, and the ipconfig didn't do anything. i've emailed the people i bought it from (it's a company) and asked for help...maybe they disabled something that i don't know how to fix right off...i dunno.

Something else to look for...

Right click on your Network icon, choose properties. There should be an entry for your Network card, "TCP/IP-> your network adapter". Make sure that the box "Obtain IP address automatically" is checked.

Try this...

If it is windows98/Me, click start, run, type winipcfg. In the drop down, choose your network adapter, then release and renew.

If it is Xp, click start, run, type cmd. In the command window, type ipconfig /release, then type ipconfig /renew.

If that doesn't work, post the output of ipconfig /all

so I got my lappy today, and hooked up my ethernet cord (cable modem) and i can't get it to locate the connection...it does have a wireless card, but i don't have the router yet...help!
