Heads up

True. I would really like to hunt down the people that make this crap and beat them over the head.

Our servers are Linux, and this particular malware only infects Windows servers, so I'm certain that none of our programs were hacked. And I get a transcript of the ads that are shown, and nothing out of the ordinary is listed, so I'm sure that the ads wouldn't have been a culprit, either.

Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to track these down because it might now have shown up immediately. More often than not, you get it one place, but it doesn't pop up until you're on a page with a certain keyword that attracts it. So, it could be hours, days, or even weeks before you know about it.

Ive got it actually and removed the pest after a reboot in safe mode and fixing the change in my internet settings. It either poped out of an ad here or on talking points memo could not be sure so figured I would give a heads up.

There's not a virus on GoWilkes. This spyware would have come from another source (probably a program installation), and the pop-up was triggered by a keyword on a page he was looking at.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will usually take care of this one for you. Knight, you can download it here:

About the only way to remove this thing is to enter safe mode kill the process ect. It also changes your internet settings to use a proxy server that prevents you from downloading updates to removal software or even viewing some support websites to get help in removing it.

Overall a nasty piece of programing I caught it trying to install and shut it down but it still managed to worm its way in. No idea if it came from here or not. The sites I had up at the time where Go Wilkes the Star Trek Online website and TPM none of which I have had problems with before.

My guess is that it suck into an advert on either go wilkes or TPM so heads up Jason no idea which.

Antivir solution is a fake antivirus / malware program that will automatically install on your computer. Nasty pain in the *** to as it blocks the task manager registry editor and basically messes with your computer blocking all tools to remove it. If anyone else gets hit by this let me know. I post this in the CV as it was one of the few sites I had up when this thing hit.
