download ,install and run these
#1 http://www.download.com/CCl...
#2 http://www.download.com/Ad-...
#3 http://www.download.com/AVG...
Start > Run > type in "msconfig" (no quotes)
selective start up ... un check anything that says tool bar or messenger > check apply > restart comp
then under start > accessories > system tools run
...disc clean up
then run ... disc defrag
if you haven't ran these in some time it could take a pretty good while 15 minutes to 1.5 hrs
all that should really speed things up
if you run an im program (yahoo,msn ,aol)your going to have to start them manually . after a few times they will reset them selves to start automatically(pain in da butt)

I agree with running Msconfig. On the main window of msconfig, click selective startup. This make the process of making sure you have the right programs selected on startup.
Also go to Filehippo.com and download super anti virus. Run this to get rid of your spy-ware. The program is free.
If you are on AOL. download their Computer checkup. Type in keyword checkup.
This program will find and fix a lot of computer problems as well as clean up temp files.

Start > Run > type in "msconfig" (no quotes)
Click the Startup tab.
That will give you a list of entries that "autorun" at startup. You can "deselect" the items you don't want/need. Then click apply.

bring your windows task manager up, then go to the processes tab.
to bring it up, you can hit the ctrl,alt,delete tabs.

If you have virus protection, run a scan. Also you can defrag, that helps some too.

Have you cleared your temporary files, history, etc.? That's the first thing I would do. Do you have the free AVG software to remove bad cookies, etc. How many programs are you running at one time? Lots are likely running in the background.

I know that this will get moved to tech talk and I started to put it on there but I noticed the last reply was at 9:00 am. When I first turn my computer on it does fine, but after it runs for about 30. min to an hour it slows down. can someone please tell me what causes this and step by step how to fix it? ( if I can) Thank you very much.
