Great if you can get to the hard drive make sure it is "seated" and the screws are snug

ok...I know this sounds crazy....but it's working now. In frustration I did a little shaking, lol. Evidently something is loose, because it immediately began coming on. Just took a few gentle taps on the desk and bingo !

ok....here is my problem....I had a "friend of a friend" install the new hard drive. I am unable to contact this person now....andthere was nothing provided back to me. It's the old story of....you get what you pay for, lol. No disks....don't even know for sure if a new drive was installed. I certianly don't have any disks.

If you have the install CD you can run a repair install (after you are instructed to hit F8 select r to repair)

After the repair process has completed run checkdisk,

If a "NEW" drive was installed it may still be under warranty, most new drivers are warranted for at least one year

repost your findings

no new programs have been added....and already tried the F8...no luck

Any new Software or Hardware? if so disconnect the hardware

wher booting the computer tap F8 to start in safe mode some times just starting in safe mode will correct the problem

try that and repost

Ok....I had a new hard drive installed on an older laptop about 6 months ago. It really hasn't performed like it should, and I don't know how to get in contact with the guy that did the work for me. Well, now it will not start up. It's a Compaq Presario with Windows 2000. It gets to the windows screen and freezes....will not do anything else....any ideas ?
