windows fire wall worries about not letting things in but what if you download programs and there is something bundled in with it? well windows firewall lets that traffic out with no problems and it could be reporting your passwords, internet traffic reports, and other valuable information. If your computer has plenty of ram and a decent processor i would recommend a firewall from symantec (norton) even though it is a resource hog. visit my website for other info on staying safe on the internet or if you need computer/network services

going into MSCONFIG an unchecking every thing in start up is a bad idea because then your anti-virus anti-spyware video drivers (for some cards), Printer drivers (for some printers), Sound drivers (for some sound cards), and other drivers may not load. If you go into MSCONFIG make sure you know what you are doing first.

One firewall is fine and the one Windows has is really all you need. If you are looking to protect your computer you need to worry more about Spy-ware. That is what the problem is 95% of the time with peoples computers. Spyware and Hijackers are what you need to watch out for. Firewalls don't stop them. To protect your system. Have a good up to date virus protection like Avast, or AVG. 3 or 4 good Spyware programs. All up to date. You can get all of this a Filehippo.com. Update your windows weekly. Run your disk cleanup and Defragmenter. Scan for virus and spyware weekly by at least 3 different programs. And the biggest thing, don't click on any adds online. Also go to start, run and type in MSCONFIG. A window will appear. GO to the startup tab. Uncheck all the boxes and restart your computer. This stops all your programs from starting up each time you turn your computer on. Check this monthly as some will self start again.

If you want the best you want comodo firewall. But your not going to like it. You can turn off windows firewall with this one, because with this one windows firewall will not give any extra help. http://personalfirewall.com...

Yes. If you add another one all you will do is cause a conflict and really so your computer down. Worry more about stopping spyware. Add a good spyware program. You can get some great ones for free on Filehippo.com.
