Since my last post on this thread, I have begun to use FireFox and am getting used to it. The add-ons in FF are far easier to understand, described in layman's terms and simpler to manage .. and there are some good ones... AdBlockerPlus is a gem.
Avoid Lavasoft Ad-Aware like the plague ... it gets horrendous user reviews these days unlike the days or yore when it was top-shelf ... instead, try a full featured anti spyware program like Spy Bot-Search and Destroy.

From my experience, none of the browsers are really faster than any of the others. The speed issue comes from applications that are running in conjunction with the browser that might slow down the speed.
If IE is running slow, then odds are that you are infected with a virus or spyware. These don't attack Firefox or Chrome as much, simply because they're not as popular.
You can remove most of these by downloading Ad Aware from http://www.download.com.

None of the browsers are more secure than the next - they just have different vulnerabilities, and at different times. Currently all of them have zero day exploits available that allow pretty much anything on your PC to be read or executed.
Whatever browser and OS you use, keep it updated as often as they make updates available, and just hope for the best!

Nope ... don't think Chrome is more secure ... I have stuck with IE7 instead of 8. When I did have download speed issues, I cured it with a faster connection speed from Charter, better hardware and clean splitters on the outside of the house..

Faster (Chrome), sure. It's faster than IE (most anything is). But "more secure"?
Hmmm.

I'm just joking around. Opera is actually ridiculously fast. They've come a long way since their browser was littered with ads around it. I think my list from fastest to slowest would be Chrome, Opera, IE 8, Firefox. This is on Vista x64 and I always install an adblock and flash which usually slow down browser speed.

"Afraid" of things that are different?
Nope. I celebrate 'em.
Besides Opera isn't "different" to me. I've used it for years. It just works better. Opera invented things like tabbed-browsing, that other browsers now brag about as "features".

What difference does "mainstream" make? Opera is, in my humble opinion, the best browser out there. And I don't give a rat's hiney if anyone else on the planet uses it. I'm perfectly content to be in the minority! Ok...YOU CAN USE IT TOO!

Don't use AOL. I have found that Firefox is becoming slower than IE. IE has done a lot to increase browser speed, especially in IE8 Google Chrome is also a really nice, fast browser as well. For those using firefox, uninstall addons and extensions because they really weigh down your browser. Opera is fast too but not as mainstream as those three.

I prefer Opera, and Firefox. But occasionally I must use IE...things like Netflix streaming simply work better with IE, or don't work on other browsers.
But for the vast majority of my browsing on my desktop and laptop it's Opera, on my netbook it's Firefox. They're simply faster, sometimes remarkably so, and work better.

I also am running Windows XP - using firefox. I am running firefox 3.6.
Internet Explorer seems to be outdated anymore. Firefox is much faster.
Good luck!!
