Excel has a limit of 4000 formatting conditions, so you may have too many cells with different formatting. The simple solution might be to make all cells have the same font, color, or anything else you can do to simplify it.

If two cells in a row have the exact same formatting, it's read as a single format code. But if one thing is different, then all of the formats are read separately. So, for instance, if both cells use Comic Sans font, red color, size 18, then both cells combined have 3 format styles. But if you change one of them to size 20, then both cells combined will have 6 format styles.

If you have 25 rows with 20 columns in each row, and each cell has a different formatting style than the neighboring cell (font type, font size, bold, italics, underline, justification, background color, font color), then this would be a potential 4000 formatting styles, which is the limit.

/when working on an Excel worksheet, I can go in a change the formats, save, close, but when I go back in, all the formats have disappeared. What could with be? I sent a copy of it to my sister to see if she figure it out and this is what she gets : first pop up says : too many different cell formats, when she clicks OK another window come up and says : Excel encountered an error and had to remove some formatting to avoid corrupting the workbook. Please re-check your formatting carefully. Does anyone have any ideas to what is going on? Thanks in advance!!
