Thanks for all of your help! I went to Staples this afternoon and picked up a USB Lan Adapter. It was about $23.00. I had some things to do this evening, but I am headed down to their house now to install.

I know Jason said to stay away from Wal-mart but I picked up the Ethernet card at Wal-mart about 3 years ago for $15 and took like 3 min to install and still in my computer. I am afraid to go in stores like PC source they always talk me into buying something. My computer is a 2000 or 2001 HP now running XP. I check around on prices but now that they have changed thigns around at wal-mart I wouldn't know where to tell you to look.

Well this machine in question, would it be running 98 or ME. If so it will not run thru the USB. I had both machines with my DSL and they would not connect thru the USB. I picked up a NIC card and all is well. I suggest 3COM cards they install easy and work well. Hope that helps.

That doesn't make any sense. Why wouldn't it support a USB hub? As far as they're concerned, it should be the same thing.
But then again, I spoke with a guy today that said they tried to install a type of hardware for credit card processing, but the engineer said that their equipment wouldn't work on his computer because it had an Athlon processor instead of Intel. I personally think that this was just an excuse from the engineer to not have to do anything, but... ya never know.
Anyway. You're looking for a regular PCI Network Card, which goes for around $10-$30 (generally, the more expensive ones are faster). Forget about Wal-Mart, though; you'll find better equipment for the same price at a specialty store like PC Source.
These install easy. Just take off the cover, find a slot that it will fit in, and then slide it in. There's 1 screw at the top to hold it in place, and if you're using Windows XP then it will install itself automatically.
I'm convinced, though, that you can use a USB 2.0 LAN Adapter. These go for around $7 online, although I've never bought one and can't vouch for their reliability or speed.

My parents have just signed up for high speed internet with Wilkes Communications, I hooked mine up just fine, but my computer is more up-to date. Their computer does not have an ethernet port. When I called the help desk, I was told that Wilkes does not support high speed internet hooked up to the USB port, and that they would have to buy an Ethernet port. I have looked at some eternet hardware at Wal-mart, but am not sure what they need. Some of the stuff was really expensive.
What is the cheapest option that will allow them to browse the internet and get their e-mail? Buying a new computer is not an option, and if theirs will reach the internet, it is all they need.
Oh, they are really anxious, because after I hooked it up and tried to connect, I somehow erased their dial-up connection and I think my Mom is having withdrawal symptoms.
