Try this. GO to the maker of your laptop's website. Look for Driver downloads. Find your model and check for the drivers. Find the CD-rom drivers and download them. There are other ways to do this but this is the easiest way to explain. It sounds like your systems drivers aren't working. They just need to be reinstalled.

My cd rom isnt working. I dont use it often so I just noticed a few weeks ago.

Do you mean the hard drive, or the CD Rom?
If it's the hard drive that's actually failed, then all that you can do is replace it. That's not the easiest thing to do on a laptop, though, so you'll want to take it to Express Computer Clinic and have them do it for you. If they can salvage your operating system then it will be cheaper, but odds are that you'll have to buy a new copy of Windows.
It's very rare that a hard drive completely fail, though, so it might be salvageable. Exactly what is it doing?
