There is also the option of satellite internet also. If you have dish or direct they have plans that can get you going. Also as a note, if you go that way, make sure you cant get embarq dsl of charter cable, they will check and see.

Before you go into the questions of all that make sure you can get DSL or cable. Call Embarq or Charter to see if you qualify. (for most people high speed refers to DSL or Cable but could include more expensive options) Then as far as DSL goes it comes in on your phone lines. Embarq would have all that you need to switch over or you could buy what you need. Generally speaking a network card in your pc is all that you need to start with. If you have a pretty new pc most likely you have one. The symbol of 2 computers down next to the clock on your pc means that you have one. Just because you don't see one though doesn't mean your pc doesn't though.

OK, I have dial up. That is all that I have ever had experience w/. I would really like to go to something faster.

I'm wondering is High Speed Internet and DSL the same thing? Who has the best services? Do you have to have a phone line for high speed or DSL? And, what all would I need to switch over.
