dell or hp

My work desktop (the one i\'m typing on, and the one I record and mix on) is a Dell. The hard drive died last weekend and had to be replaced. Not Dell\'s fault. I\'ve owned other Dells too, and they were good machines. But Dell\'s telephone tech-support is among the worst.

HP is different...in my experience. I had a problem with an HP laptop last year, and they had it fixed and back to me in less than a week...travel time both ways included. Amazingly helpful.

If telephone support is important to you, consider that. I generally fix problems myself...unless it\'s just defective hardware.

DELL is HORRIBLE. never, never ever ever ever, buy DELL. their support is garbage, and so is their products. i spent 2k on a custom setup and over the year of my warranty they had to replace the tower 5 **** times because it fried. the power supply blew up and mobo toasted.

HP definitely. DELL support is outsourced and terrible. Not very helpful at all when there are problems (which is about 75% of the time). DELL is supposed to be on more of an upswing, so maybe they will improve. I'll believe it when I see it. DELL computers look pretty in pictures, but feel cheaply made (especially laptops). HP online updates are confusing and non-functional at times, but I'll take them over DELL any time.

I feel that no matter which system you buy it will still be pre-loaded with crappy applications which never seem to go away.

I have owned both at various times over the years. Currently I own a Dell desktop (which I'm using to type this), and my wife owns an HP laptop (my laptop is a Gateway).

I don't use tech support very often, preferring to troubleshoot myself. But I do find the Indian tech support offered by Dell particularly frustrating.

HP's service, the one time I've needed it, was far more helpful.
