It sounds to me like you are saying the usb keyboards work but the (other) with the plain plug don't. If your computer is on and you plug in a usb plug the computer will find it and say you have new hardware and it will work. With the (other) as you call it you need to plug it in and boot the computer. It will usually find and install the keyboard software from windows, if not you need the drivers for that keyboard which you should be able to find on line. The answer is based on how I read your post.

The mini-din plug on the back of your pc is bad, you need to get another USB keyboard to use with it, I have had the same problem with some dell pc's.

The usb keyboard should work no matter what usb it is in. So I would hook it to a front usb first and see if that works.

The rear usb ports are soldered onto the main board The front are not.

Also if you are using a USB to min DIN adaptor the mini Din port may be the problem ( regular keyboard connector) or the adaptor could be bustes.

Go to Device manager and Uncheck all boxes on all root hubs about saving power. Reboot the computer and see if that makes any difference

I have bought several keyboards for my dell computer and it has a usb plug that goes in the back of the tower. The others that I have bought is the plain plug and when I plug it in the back of the tower it gets power but goes right off and will not work. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to change something in my control panel? I am clueless....thanks for all info!
