chris87 (view profile) | Posted 6:54 pm, 04/18/2012 | Depends on where you are located. Honestly if you can wait for shipping I would order one off of Newegg.com. They have the cheapest products and most of the time free shipping. |
If all he needs is a 4 pin to SATA, I will give him one for FREE. No waiting or ordering!! That's cheaper than Newegg!!

If you have another Pc or power supply with the same connecters you can us it to test the PC even if it is not the right size for the case. In other words you don't have to mount a power supply inside the case for test the pc out. As long as the Power supply has the right connecters on it it will work

Ok I switched out the PSUs.
The only issue I have now is the psu I installed only has 2 sata connectors placed very closely so i couldn't plug in my dvd drive.
Anywhere locally i could find a sata to ide connector?
Thanks for your help.

The name is just for marketing purposes,it doesnt effect the pc. Most standard psus are 250-300 watts and will work with standard store bought pcs. If you need help on how to swap psus please send me a pm and ill be glad to help you. All you need to hook up is the 20 + 4 pin connector to the motherboard. It onky goes in one way,so be careful and dont force it in. the pc will post with no hdd attached which is what were tying to accomplish.
Thanks, chris

Thanks for your reply.
I have a couple of computers with PSUs in them but I'm not sure they would work since they aren't Dells.

Sounds like a bad psu. If you have a spare comp try taking the psu out of it,and see if it will post. I had an old computer and you had to pull the 24 pin connector out and reseat it sometimes, you can try that and see if it will fix it. Also you can try to power cycle the pc ,and see if it will post as well. Need any help just send me a pm,and ill be glad to help you.

I have a Dell Inspiron 570 that will not start up.
There's no indication of lights, fans or any signs of life at all. I'm thinking a dead power supply but others opinions would be welcome.
I found a thread at Dell which states some of these models shipped with faulty PSUs so I think it's the most likely culprit. Unfortunately I found it too late to meet the Sept 2011 deadline to get a free replacement.
