defrag

I'm just wondering how big the hard drive is and how much stuff you have on there to only have 2% left. You could probably go out and buy another hard drive pretty cheap.

As for the Dialup and Defragging, they have nothing to do with each other. Not even on Vista. lol

Also, Disk Cleanup will clean out all the temporary files, but you might want to go to your My Documents and the My Pictures folders and see if there is anything there you can delete or move to floppy or whatever.
That will clear up some space.

"If you have Dial-up, just, when you turn on the degrag, do it just before you go to bed, it should be completed when you get up."

I know its way past my bedtime, but what does having a dial-up connection have to do with defragging???

Is that one of the features of Vista???

When degraging, be sure you click the "C" file, the D file normally does not require a degraf and "C" is where all your congestion gathers. The individual who told you about checking start, tools, etc. In order to locate degrag: Left click Start, left click "All Programs, left click Accessories, left click System Tools, go down to "clean disk" this does take some time for the disk to clean, but be careful what you click to be deleted, make sure you want to delete those items, sometimes it is difficult to recover files that have been deleted, you can click the "view files" it will tell you what files are going to be deleted. Once the "c" file has been cleaned, go back to All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, then, click Defrag, once again, click the "C" file, analyze, usually I will continue with the degrag, just left clidk Defrag, yes, it takes some time but you will definitely see an increase in speed. If you have Dial-up, just, when you turn on the degrag, do it just before you go to bed, it should be completed when you get up.

oops! almost forgot..open windows > accessories> tools> disc cleanup. let it run takes 5 minutes to 1+ hour . when it finishes it will ask if you want to delete the files check all the boxes> click ok or delete or yes whatever it brings up then it will take a few minutes for it to delete the files and that will free up space on your hard drive

* try emptying your recycle bin/wastebasket first you might have enough trash in it to solve your problem

move some photos / music any old crap you dont want or need to the recycle bin /waste basket then empty it (its trash its gone)
or
open the control panel click add remove programs
remove any old games , messengers ,toolbars ,
programs you have installed and then said well dam thats useless.
old scanner ,printer software you no longer use
..
you can always re-install the messengers and tool bars if you cant live without them

When I try to defrag it tells me it only has 2% of space and it needs 15% to run effectively. Go to hard drive and delete unneeded files. My question is how do I go to hard drive and delete unneeded files and will I know which ones I don't need?
