I had a hard drive fail once and that's how it started

The overheating thing happens too especially if it's a laptop with a few years on it.... can you hear your fan working ? With laptops I quit putting them on my lap, I use a board or something and it seems to help (though in winter the extra heat is kinda nice if ya know what i mean LOL) If you can find one on sale those things you set the laptop on that plug into a USB port and have a fan blowing on the underside of the computer: they are GREAT. Problem is they're so overpriced so you really gotta look for a deal.

We had the exact same thing happen with our laptop. It would act like it would start and then go blank. I did get windows to actually start up a time or two and then it would go blank again, and turn off.

It makes me wonder if it was a computer virus or something.

Yup ... likely a power supply or a possibly even a hard disc in the initial stages of failure. I would take it in for a checkup ... before you loose anything valuable on the drive. Sorry.

Long as the subscription on the CA suite is up to date, it should be fine although that maker is unfamiliar to me.

It is very likely a hardware overheating issue.

Maybe the power supply, possibly a virus or worm directing the OS to shut the system down. What anti-virus software to you run?

Seems to me it would be very hard to say much without putting the machine on a test bench. Is it a laptop or DT?
