Cellular Ready Routers

I've never used one and never looked into it until now, but this seems to be a good one.

Kyocera KR2 Mobile Router seems to be a good one. All I can go by are the reviews, which are positive for this one

I don't know what carrier research you've done, but EVDO can be found with Sprint only right now. US Cellular may have it, all I know about them is they are supposed to release it sometime this year. Carolina West has EVDO set up, has for quite some time, but hasn't released it to customers yet. I'm not sure what the hold up is. Pricing is the same anywhere you go.

Is this to replace your primary internet access?

A who what?

What wilkesman2 said is correctish. If you already have a smartphone, check into PDAnet. You pay for the unlimited web surfing plan on your existing cellphone, and it allows you to bridge that over to other PCs. If your phone has wifi built in, it can turn it into a wireless router, or you can tether it to a regular wireless router, etc. The cellphone companies dont see it as tethering tho, so you save the charges there.

cellular ready router? Ask the sales person who makes one that will work. Did they also tell you the speed you will get from it? It used to be only 150Kbits per second or 150Kbps. That is OK for when you are on the road but very slow for home use when embarq offers 1500kbps or 1.5Mbps for about $20 now. But I cant take Embarq in the car with me.
You can try bridging your air card to your lan connection and use you PC as the default gateway (the way out for your network).
You will need to know if it is CDMA or GMS
Verison, Carolina West, and Alltel use CDMA.
AT&T uses GMS If it is another company we can look up what they use.
If none of this information helps feel free to ask more.

I'm looking at getting an aircard, and using it for internet service across a wireless network. Based on information from the salesman, I understand that I need a cellular ready router for this.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm seeing a wide range in price on routers, from $80 to $500, and have no idea what the differences are. I like the $80 price tag, but only if it will work!

If it matters, the network has 2 wired PCs and a wireless laptop, sharing files as well as internet service.

I appreciate any advice on this. TIA,

Jason
