Best DSLR camera?

I have a Sony DSC-H1 with lenses. It takes great pictures but even with the telephoto lens it still leaves much to be desired. The macro pics turn out great but I would recommend going with cannon or nikon.

It's not under $700 but I just got the Olympus e510 (comes with 2 lenses) and every salesperson in every camera shop I've walked into looking at accessories, etc. has drooled when I told them I have it. One guy said he takes professional pictures too and has always been a Nikon guy. Then he got the 500 and changed his mind completely. He's selling his 500 body to upgrade to the 510.

The e410 (also with 2 lenses) is about $100 cheaper usually - although I did see it at Circuit City for between $700-800 before I bought mine. The major difference is the 510 has better image stabilization.

Oh, btw, these are both 10 mp cameras.

Economize on the BODY, splurge on the LENS. Many of the zooms that come with the cheapest Canon/Nikon bodies are just plain sucky.

Same situation as spending $5,000 for a stereo system and buying speakers on sale for $200. Your $5,200 stereo system will sound like crud.

Digital Rebel XT with Lens, $487 in stock. It's not worth the extra $200 to go for the XTi in most cases.

Hi. I've got a Canon S3-IS and I love it. I received it last year for my birthday and have taken roughly 4000 shots with it in the last year. While it's not strictly a DSLR, it works like one. You can change to manual settings and I do have a couple of different lens and use filters with it as well. It's a fantastic little camera for the price. I believe they are down to around $300 now. I really love Canon cameras for their optics. I believe they deliver the biggest bang for the buck.

Anyone have any suggestions for the best DSLR camera for under 700 bucks? I've read so many reviews about every brand, and still can't decide which one to get.
