It sounds like you have a corrupted IDE driver. Java took a driver with it that you'll have to reinstall, no matter what.

The only thing I can suggest is to try uninstalling the IDE drivers from Device Manager, then let them reinstall automatically. You might have to do this while in Safe Mode. It shouldn't be too complicated, since the Windows boot disk should do it automatically for you, and it's a lot easier than a fresh install!

I'm not too familiar with Windows 2000, so this next part is more of an educated guess. But if the above doesn't work, try booting from the Windows CD and let it do a repair, which will basically just reinstall all of the IDE drivers. If it tries to remove the Windows directory, though, then cancel it because this will format and start over. Only proceed if it says "Repair Your Windows 2000."

Uninstalled Java on Windows 2000, now the system just reboots when trying to load Windows. I enabled boot logging and this is as far as it gets: "Did not load driver ACPI Uniprocessor PC." Normally, unless I find a fast fix for boot issues with Windows, I'll just reinstall. Ultimately, thats quicker and Microsoft isn't my bread and butter, Unix is. If it was Unix, I'd be digging for the answer, but some of you Microsoft folks probably already know it. However, I'm dual booting Linux, so I'm still in business. I would like to avoid the hassle of reinstalling software and drivers, so if anyone has seen this before, any advice is welcome.
