It's great, it's free and runs in the background without slowing my computer down. I used to use AVG and Avira and they would have annoying popups while updating, but not Microsoft Security Essentials (I got it wrong in my OP).

Get Microsoft Security Suite. I stopped paying for bulky anti-virus a long time ago.

Avast is on all of my systems, and it's free!

AVG is free and works pretty well. (I like a good security suite, all bundled and still run spybot twice a week.) Zone alarm firewall is also free. It is not so bad of a firewall. If you are on a budget, I would recommend them without any problems. The price is right, just keep them updated, and running.

Nod32 is a great anti-virus. norton and avg are pos. I reformat computers norton and avg let 100's of problems get though. It works with XP or Vista

Which Anti-Virus software is the best these days? Thought about switching from Norton to Kaspersky.
