Yep, 8 stinks for desktop use - 8.1 is somewhat better, but I definitely don't trust Microsoft with all my info. Also, I do not store anything in any cloud.providers. (Ever wonder why they push it so much)?

Yep and save a lot of cash - IE, Open office, GIMP (Photoshop alternative), PDF Editor, and a slew a other open source programs.

Microsoft is strange - If I have a company and there is a demand for the product - you can bet your rear-end that I am going to be producing it. However, I am sure they want the public to go with Windows 8 so they see everything the user is doing. I would use TOR web brower more is it wasn't so slow - but even TOR would not prevent Microsoft from seeing your Windows 8 stuff. Of course microsoft will deny this - I know where I would place my bet.

Staples, Walmart, Amazon, etc. all have Windows 7 systems you can order on-line.

yes you can still buy it yourself and reimage the pc to windows 7, but you won't be able to buy an oem system with it on it...

You can still get it at Tiger Direct, Newegg and Amazon for $134 to $140 a copy (professional), but prices on it are steadily going up.

The bad thing is Microsoft is not selling anymore copies of Windows 7 to OEM manufacturers but instead every pc going forward will be shipped with Windows 8/8.1

I still think windows 8 should have been just for mobile devices and touch screens. Also, I am not for signing on using the Microsoft Account and use my local account the majority of the time. Microsoft is trying to get to much control over our information. Can't even install Office 2013 without signing on to Microsoft with an account. I am about to say to-**** with Microsoft and go to a Linux based operating system. Windows 8 was not an improvement over windows 7 (well, maybe boot time). I have systems with both operating systems and does my web browser work better in 8 - NOPE, is there better software and hardware compatibility -- NOPE, is it easier to use - NOPE, and are there privacy concerns - YES. Now Microsoft is hem-hawing about expediting the development and release of Windows 9 (do to the failure of Windows 8). Hopefully they will keep the office/work center desktop user in mind.
