"65535" Error

I agree you need to get the original disk from HP, or take it to a shop you trust, you could also do a "new install" if you have a copy of vista (all additional programs and drivers would have to be reinstalled)

I have tried the sfc /scannow. I cannot download the data recovery software. When I try, it says "ShellExecute 65535 Error, Operation Aborted" Maybe I need to get the Vista Disk from HP. I am stumped.

I cannot

I cannot "download" any programs. Adobe Flash Player, or anything like that. I can "open" programs that are compatable with the software that I already have installed. However, if the program requires an updated version of the software to run, I cannot "download" that update. I backed up all important files on disk before doing factory restore. I would really like to "download" a newer, updated version of Windows, but I cannot, due to this "65535 Error." I believe it is a Microsoft malfunction, from what I have read, but no one seems to know how to fix it; less replacing the hard drive.

Might be a virus. What do you mean "download a program"? You mean go on the internet, and download a program from a website? Or do you mean try to OPEN a program that's installed on your system? (Which is not "downloading"). It sounds like that's what's trying to do.

If you've done a "factory restore" from the image on your hard drive, you realize that you have wiped EVERYTHING from your system...your files, your programs, EVERYTHING. And since Vista hasn't been loaded on new laptops in about two years, you have YEARS of updates to install before your system is back to normal.

I'd need more info to help more (ok, to help at all..the above probaby didn't help!)

I have an HP Laptop. Whenever I try to download any program, I get this "65535 Error, Operation Aborted" message. It has Windows Vista, and the desktop icons are not loading, and the Control Panel will not load, I have tried a factory restore two times. No Luck. I have also tried the sfc /scannow command. No Luck. If anyone has any idea how to fix this problem please help, as I am out of ideas, and I need to update my software. Thanks!
