It will be between Ashe and WC ...

Yes Ashe May very well win the conference or even Elkin. The fact is I’m not going to polish a turd. It is a disappointing thing to watch WC lose the way they did Friday night. There is way too much talent on that team. Whether it’s coaching or talent, we will find out in the next couple of weeks.

I wouldn't sleep on Ashe Co. either.....from what I heard they have a running game with a sophomore RB how ran it all over Avery. Now, Avery isn't that good but Ashe Co. running the ball is a surprise in itself let alone doing it effectively. The passing game is what it is but mix in a decent running game and all of sudden your defense is at a disadvantage.

The problem with Ashe Co is that it has taken their coach 5 or 6 years to adjust what he wants to do on offense and figure out that a 50/50 run/pass mix is much harder to defend than a 5/95.

The next couple of weeks will determine how good they are (Watauga, Hibriten and West Caldwell)!

I think the losses of the assistant coaches that left was prominent. 14 points against a below average with as much offensive talent as WC has does not look good. There is zero excuse for WC to lose to a team like NI that is looming to take the next step. I was really hoping we would see some consistency this year. But looks like your run of the mill WC team. Good talent that underachieves. Will probably be good enough to win the conference but will get beat in the first round by 3 TDs.

C-Dub actually didn't have a bad game. Receivers dropped passes and Joraye had a long TD run called back on a mystery hold. I agree it looked bad. But it's just one game. Too much talent to count out.

I see the MVAC as follows
1. WC
2. Elkin
3. Starmount
4. WW
5. Ashe
6. NW
7. Alleghany
8. EW

One Friday night gone and the absolute idiots from Alleghany and Elkin want to tell **** now. Hate on WC as much as you want. Key players with injuries is how I summarize the WC game. True its not going to be easy in any way. #55 and #22 are out for a few weeks. Let Alleghany and Elkin lose a couple of key players and we will not hear another word from them. WC has a lot and I mean a whole lot to work on, but they will still be the conference champs. Don't go to judging yet Rednecks

I see WC finally starting to get the respect we deserve. The pride of Wilkes County. Great ball game from the boys last night

WC is not the team to beat. The losses of Coach Compton and Tapley are too much too overcome. The offense is stagnant and the defense is in for a long season. They will be lucky to win 5 games this season based off what I seen last night against a terrible North Iredell team.

Good luck to WC...they are definitely the team to beat in the conference. Good luck to all Wilkes County schools.

#22 for WC honestly was the best back on the field all night!! A load and runs extremely hard.

#22 Howell for Wilkes Central has been a good runner for them for years now, There's just been a lot of talent ahead of him. He has gotten bigger and stronger. He is a north south runner that runs very physical and it looks like he has changed a few things up a little bit. Yes its just one scrimmage. But he did look strong last night. I was very shocked to see him start the game. C-Dub did a decent job last night. No picks and threw the football to the spots that only his guys could catch it. C-Dub is just a flat out winner. I think this team is going to surprise a lot of people this year. They are going to have to pick it up defensively. St. Stephens wasn't very good at all.

Why is there no talk about 22 running back from Central. He looked great last night and look quick and a strong runner. My source says he's the starter. Also there are good players on Centrals team. Howell, Pack, c dub, McNeil. And good receivers. This team could possibly be better than last years team because there is no superstar like Boles. Just my opinion. Time will tell. Good luck to all county teams. I wish them all well.

A scrimmage can be a good indicator if it has live game situation moments. Most teams get better as the season progresses..but this late in the pre season..what you see may be what you get..until you get better...Real Season starts in a week.

Seen Alleghany and North Wilkes the last two days.

Alleghany is rightfully spotted in most predictions as their offense is pretty bad. They run a weird hybrid offense with a ton of option plays yet they don't have the true athletes at the back spots to .do it right. O line is easy to get thru despite the size of the players. Defense had some hustle but they will struggle against Ashe and WC and anyone who throws. If they can't beat North Stokes week 1 it will be a rough year for them.

North Wilkes is in some ways better than last year oddly but still nowhere near that '13 team. They threw it more than they ran it this time. Last year it was the opposite when I seen them. Brown is no longer the QB, he's instead their main WR as Chapman's son is the QB. As. result they are more of a throwing offense now but it's less dynamic than last year as Chapman's can't run as hard or fast so no bootlegs or options. That will come back to haunt them against more athletic teams like WC and even Ashe in their offense. On D I found them to be worse than in '17. They have a hard time focusing on offences; if you both run and pass it and have athletes they will struggle to defend both. Depth is way down for both teams especially their JV's.

Now considering the scrimmages I still can't fully pick the MVAC besides first and last. WC's still #1 and Alleghany's last. 2-7 is gonna be a tossup but that's a plus for the MVAC as parity is what it needs.

Good job Eagles. Got some cleaning up to do. For the most part looked pretty good offensively. Ball handling still an issue for some. Defensively they have to get better. EW is going to have a really long season. West Wilkes looked okay. And ev1 had better be ready for Elkin this year. They will be good immediately,.

A scrimmage is not a very good indicator of what the season is going to be like. Just like preseason in pro sports.
