Technically, a wing is a combination of a shooting guard/small forward. This is a position where Carolina needs help this year, and with Henson's slender build, he has shown at least at the high school level, he has to range to hit perimeter shots.

Having said that, he is a power forward. He is listed on the roster as a power forward, and was the nation's top ranked power forward coming out of high school for '09.

If you look at what Harrison Barnes actually is, you will realize that Henson will see little to no time at the "3" once he (Barnes) arrives next year, and around the baseline is where Henson will do the most damage. I wouldn't underestimate him - once he gains weight/strength, and moves into the PF position, he will be a shot altering presence with the ability to hit the mid to perimeter jumper.

Henson will get there. He will also be one of the top shot blockers in the country by next year. If he gets some muscle to throw around, he will become an inside/outside threat. It's just a situation right now where they have an abundance of big men and no perimeter game to open things up for them to play. No fastbreaks and no ballhandling. They will have games of brilliance and games of crap. I'll try not to get too far down on them unless it continues next year.

John Henson will never be a major factor at the 3 for UNC, you can put that in the bank.

My definition of major equals being a teams top 3 player. He will never be one of UNC's top 3 players.

It's way too early in Hensons college career to say that he'll never be a factor but he does have alot to learn and improve on.

He is projected as a wing player, that is why he went to UNC, to be a wing player.

I would agree that John Henson is an experiment, but only at this point because, once again, he is playing as a wing and is NOT a wing player.

He has a tremendous skills et, he is just very weak and doesn't have the strength required to bang down low at the college level. A dedication to the weight room resulting in 30 lbs of muscle, and the addition of Harrison Barnes will allow fans to see why NBA scouts are drooling over John Henson. He's the real deal, a lot like Brandan Wright.

Playground ball is all I've seen Carolina play this season to be honest. I've seen it talked about on other message boards also.

UNC has a lot of talent, but there's also a lot of opportunity as well.

Look at John Henson, Carolina fans and recruiting experts thought he was the next Kevin Durant, lol.

The dude is a project and will never be a major factor at UNC.

Anyway....conference season is here, it'll be Duke and UNC at the top again in my opinion.

College of Charleston actually has a few notches in its belt. One of them, I think, was beating Duke when they were ranked #1. I predict UNC will be in Top 8 contention next year. They could still be in the Sweet 16 this year. All it will take is better play out of Drew (and the guards). Speed would help, but he mainly needs some good things to happen to give him confidence. He definitely needs to learn to feed the post much better. With the big men UNC has, he should be getting a lot of assists. However, the big guys are getting baskets more from missed shots and feeds from each other. The big fellows would have a lot more room down low if someone could actually become a threat outside to open the middle up. I think MacDonald and Strickland should get more playing time; MacD was the only player that looked like a shooter the other night. They'll settle down some when Roy lets 7 of them play together for longer stretches. I really haven't liked Ginyard for 3 years. Thompson is a waste of space 2 out of every 3 games. He's an "emotionless" moody player (if that's possible). When he gets frustrated from not getting the ball, he tends to just disappear more. Maybe if he worked harder to get open the guards would have someone to get the ball to. I like Davis, but he doesn't pay attention for half the game. Communication is really lacking on this team. How many times does the ball hit the catcher in the back of the head or bound away untouched on a break or offensive movement? They really have no court or player awareness on offense or defense. They get to the point on the court blindly drawn up on the chalkboard, but make little attempt to adapt to what the other players are doing. They are an easy defense to get around or over if you have even just moderately speedy ballhandling. Maybe Roy should let their system be "playground" basketball for a while and see what they can do athletically. They're not very good at handling "X's and O's". Of course, in playground basketball the best player is usually the primary ballhandler, and they don't have that yet.

"just the facts" is that it's hard to win a national championship, period. ONE. I'll take two in the last five years.. Remind me how many duke has won during that period? Heck, remind me how many regionals duke has reached since 2003. Because Carolina is going through a rebuilding year, the duke fans act like they are going to be awarded some sort of title by default. That ain't gonna happen. There are important wins and loses during the season, but the one that matters the most is in March, when its one and done.

Before Hansbrough and Lawson, there was May and Felton. There will be others. As a freshman, Hairston Barnes will make a huge impact. Some players are more ready than others at that stage, see: Wall, John, and Favors, Derrick.

Carolina's primary problem lies in the backcourt. Drew II needs to grow a lot...and fast, but he doesn't have the same speed as Lawson and Felton. Incoming Marshall doesn't, either. Leslie McDonald and Strickland need to emerge as 2's.

I think next year UNC will be much improved (so long Thompson and Ginyard!), but I would guess that the year AFTER next, they will be in National Championship contention again. Book it, mark it, and mail it in.

BTW, Roy Williams has the highest winning percentage amongst active coaches (sorry, Mike), and that didn't happen because he doesn't know what he's doing.
