Duke should win the ACC Toruney, but it doesn't make Duke a Great team.

It makes them better than the tarholes this year! LMBDCAO!!

Yeppers

And even football, an argument is to be made whether expansion helped football. I don' t mean financially, obviously it has in the pocket, but I mean on the field.

Is the rest of the ACC catching those supposed powers that joined the ACC, or have those powers regressed to the original members of the ACC?

I argue that they've regressed.

I long for those old days of ACC basketball, but we'll never see those again IMO.

I tend to agree with you about the Big East, but I think it also can partially be attributed to some of the media markets their teams play in. The ACC expanded for football revenue, but I think the spread of the teams has hurt basketball. Each team will have good seasons, but top to bottom the ACC will perhaps never be the powerhouse it used to be. The talent gets spread too thinly and the teams beat each other down too much in conference travel, etc. I liked it so much better when you had the Big 4 and Maryland/Georgia Tech seemed like a long ways to go. The scheduling is also inconsistent which is even hurting many of the traditional rivalries.

I'm afraid as I think I said earlier in this thread, that the ACC will never overtake the Big East again.

When I say that I mean as the perennial best conference, the ACC is probably still capable of being the best conference from time to time but when preseasons roll around from now on, for the most part the conversations will start with the Big East.

I think there have been several of us UNC fans on here that have been nothing but "Realists" about this Carolina team. I know YanksHeels and I and a number of others have pointed out the weaknesses of UNC and Dook all season. UNC lacks mainly the leadership and also suffer from the lack of any chemistry, emotion, or motivation. I'd like for them to show some kind of emotion some time, even if it's only anger and frustration. We did not look terrible the first 2-3 weeks of the season. I thought they were overrated from the beginning (and worried about it), but I was pleasantly surprised at how they were hanging with some of the better teams. They beat MSU and OSU (top 10-15 teams), stood tough in the second half against Kentucky and played OK against Texas. Freethrows could have won the Kentucky game and made the Texas game closer. Thompson and Drew played with some spirit in those early games. They just stink now. Thompson and Davis are 2 of the dumbest big men during the course of a game - always out of position and never ready for the ball. I don't care how many rebounds they get, their fundamentals are poop. Ginyard is absolutely the worst player I've watched in college games all year - especially considering how much playing time Roy gives him. The Wears are wasted scholarships at this point, but may fill roles off the bench when the team is better. I didn't understand why Roy didn't try to get even a middle-of-the-road point guard to at least back up Drew. Yes, it's coming, but I think Roy just assumed their huge inside players would just perform better. I think Roy tried to force the UNC system on players that can't handle it. The ones with scoring potential are Freshman and have no one to look up to. They are not a run-and-gun team. By the time Roy figured out that nothing was working, it was over. The players have done badly, but I also think the coaching has not been great either this season. That doesn't mean the coach is overrated in his career. I am tiring of people saying something like that that obviously is not proven in any way. Coach K's coaching job and recruiting have been suspect in that way for almost a decade; it doesn't change the fact that both guys are among the greatest coaches of all time in college.

Dook should win the ACC Toruney, but it doesn't make Dook a Great team. The ACC just isn't as good as the Big East, Big 10, SEC, or several of the other majors this season. Everyone is better than the PAC-10 though. The NCAA winner this season wins by survival. In a normal season, I haven't seen a single team that is all that worthy of a Championship. If Wall performs consistently, Kentucky could take it. Of the games I've watched, Kansas has played the best overall (in my opinion). I'd pick one of those, but you just never know about a team like Syracuse or Texas or Villanova. They can look like crap and then put it together and beat anyone. Makes for good spectator basketball for the watchers who don't have anything to lose this year. As a UNC fan this year, I am resigned to that fact and will enjoy watching.

Yeah Jerod No PG not to mention no pure shooters either. Graves is our best shooter and on a normal UNC team he wouldn't even be starting.

Country Yank did make good points but if you would look back the same points have been made earlier in the year. If the Heels had a floor leader the season would look alot different. It was pointed out on here a long time ago that they were overrated to start the year. In college basketball the PG position is huge and UNC has nothing better than an average backup PG on their roster this year. Add that in with all the injuries which seemed to roll into an attitude that they dont care anymore and you have what we have now with the Tarheels.

yea ok unc fans, yanksheels is the only one who makes any valid points for unc perfornance, and he is correct. as far as what excuses i want you to make i could care less, i was merely pointing out the lack of carolina fans posting on here since the first of the year, when everybody was saying strength of schedule will pay off in march, well it dont look to good now does it , when the best you can do is beat nc state where is the payoff,

Wolfpack- When l made that statement, UNC was coming off a loss to Kentucky by 2 points, who is possible the BEST team in the Nation(Kansas). They were 7-2, with losses coming by way of Two teams that are STILL and HAVE BEEN all season ranked in the Top 5(Cuse',Kentucky).

No1 on here or elsewhere was predicting the collapse they have fell into.

Not even in Your most ignorant post(which is saying something) did you hint upon the possibility of them stinking it up that much this year, so dont start talking trash now.

UNC fans havent disappeared from this thread anymore than everyone else. I come and check it everyday before work, as well as my email and the Auto section of Gowilkes.

How, exactly, are any dook fans gonna talk spit about UNC being so bad this year, yet praise dook so heavily.

Y'all beat us by 10, not 20-30,..TEN. I know some of you dook "fans" might have watched the game and if you did, you'd see how poor Duke is as well. Unc had too many chances to count to win that game...Cmon Man! 1st half transition points- 20-0(Uncs Favor). We turned y'all over, confused you defensively, and held your scoring to it's lowest all season(At that point) and we still somehow managed to lose. That doesnt show anything but how bad we are this year, but on the same token, as bad as we are..y'all barely won.

The funny thing ultimately is this, As bad as we are playing this year, we are STILL the Defending Champs and Winners of 2 in the last 5 years...not something Duke can say.

Remember that 8-20 team from a few years back..

The same guys that lead us to Two National Titles in the last 5 years :D

Hate on while you can, it wont be this way for long

Gt, cmon man, you're a smarter sports fan that that, dont agree with the ignorance that "wolfpack" post. :(

As for countryboy, Yes they were ranked too high preseaon, but top 25 was forseeable for this collection of Talent. It's a simple case of underperformance and not meshing as a team.

No, they are not a top 25 team this year and wont be, but with a true leader they could be.

Take Jon from Duke, and they drop a few more games this year..

Take Wall from Kentucky and they arent in the top 25

You can go on and on

Having no leader will not get you anywhere.

With a decent PG in the Duke game, we would have won by miles.

How many trips down the court did we make were we came up empty on offense in the half court...90% of them? and still barely lost.

Ignorance by some of you is why no1 post here now, not the fact that UNC is underperforming.

GT You're right. It's been a bad year for the Heels. Seems like last years title was decades ago. It totally takes away from the Dook/UNC rivalry b/c there is really nothing to talk about this year. As far as Dooks down year in 94-95 and K's back surgery, UNC's team this year is alot like that one. The best player Dook had that year was Cherokee Parks and Langdon,Capel and Wojo were all freshman that year so with or without K they was going to be down and K knew it so why not get the back took care of that year. Afterwards him petitioning the NCAA to have that year removed from his record is one of the reasons I dislike him so much. Aside from a few odd years UNC and Dook are both consistently top teams in the country but when a year like this happens it takes everything away from rivalry.

Thanks on the compliment countryboy828, and ya know something its really not been any fun on this thread since December. As we all know carowina is what 14-13 or 13-12, either way they are 1 game from just being a .500 team. We all seen the bragging from some of the carowina fans like Yanks at the start of the season, thanks for reminding us Wolfpack.. LMAO and now its just down to a couple of what I call tar hole faithful. And I'm not gonna come on here and bash them and carowina because it wouldn't do any good at all. I know the last time Duke had a pathetic year, or what I call a bad year was 94-95 when coach K had back surgery, I believe that was the last time Duke didn't make the NCAA tourney and wasn't ranked at the end of the year! To me that speaks volumes on how consistent Duke has been the last decade and a half. I know they haven't won a National Championship since 2001 but 15 years of being ranked and one of the top ACC teams every year says alot about coach K and Duke! And who know's Duke could have a down year like carowina is having this year, and I hope they show a lil bit of respect to us Duke faithful if that were to happen..

I'm with you Scottieboy. I'm a lifetime Tarheel no matter what the record is. I wasn't any bigger of a fan last year when they were winning the National Championship than I am this year. I'm just not sure what people like countryboy think we're suppose to say. They wanna say that we've disappeared but what can you come on here and say about the team. There is no excuse for them, they're just not good.
