Duke or UNC

This team has no heart. They need a leader to step up and the rest feed off him and his intensity like they did with Hansbrough the last 4 years. This team comes out of games and just seems to be going thru the motions and when they do that against a good team like Clemson you have what happened last night.

Springs are downward spirals that will pop back up in your face if you aren't careful. UNC definitely doesn't have a full metal jacket this season, but they are reloading for the coming years. They will lose a lot this year, and you guys had better beat them while they're down. When the pieces come together next year (Barnes and others), you will lose a little face yourselves. Duke plays well for one half of ball every game I've watched the past 3 weeks. I don't see them making it past the Sweet 16 this year either. That being said, I would not be surprised to see Duke beat UNC by 20+ the first time they play this year. UNC's comfort zone seems to be getting smaller and smaller. The more you tell some of these guys right out of high school, the more confused they get. Back to the basics. I was only able to watch the first half, but one of the good things I saw was that Drew and Strickland were actually being successful at penetration and getting up and down the court. There is a definite lack of communication on this team, and the big men move and react way too slowly. Ginyard, in my opinion, is still dragging the entire team down. I don't want the ball in his hands unless he is wide open, and I have felt for 3 years (he was good his first year) that he is overrated on defense. Injury or no last year, this year he is proving me right.

I think LocalSportFan pretty much nailed it.

Sorry, Duke has a nice team, but I'm not mailing or cashing any checks proclaiming them as National Champs. They have a great coach, get recognizable talent, and are relevant and good for the ACC, but c'mon, man.

Duke absolutely gets tired later in the year. K runs Singler and Scheyer in the ground during the season. The ACC Tournament is really Duke's ultimate goal every year. They put so much into those 3 games that when the NCAA rolls around, they are 1 or 2 and done. The Freshman pulled them through the end of last season after sitting on the bench most of the year. Now he's gone. Duke will not be able to compete with big teams day in and day out. One or 2 of the big guys have played OK, but the big personnel is very limited. The scrappiness of Singler and Scheyer is pulling them through right now. Without one of them Duke will struggle. K has players riding the bench who should really be getting some more PT right now. I never have understood why he rides some of his better players on the bench against weaker competition early in the season. I think he lets his upperclassmen pad their stats and get the easy W's. When Duke did have the speedy/smart point guards over a decade ago, they could get away with that system more during a whole season. Just doesn't happen that way for them any more.

I think you'd better sit back and pay attention. This has been status quo for the last 7 years. As usual, the more athletic teams give Duke fits. Nothing to do with tired legs? You might want to have a look at how many games Duke played before losing to Georgia Tech. Now, Tech isn't any slouch, but before you start talking about contending for National Championships, you better be able to handle that level of competition.

The parity of basketball today means that Duke will really have to have a tremendous amount of luck to win another championship under Coach K. Duke is probably slighter better than Carolina at this point, but nowhere nearly good enough to challenge for a NC.

At this point in the season, I will even retract my negative statements I made earlier about Scheyer. He has played more consistently than any other player I've watched in the ACC this year. I do think that later in the season Duke might have a problem like they have in the last few years. They rely so much on Singler and Scheyer that if one of them has an offnight, Duke will look bad against a good team. In past seasons, Scheyer seems to get tired toward tournament time and Duke doesn't have anyone to fill his role. UNC has looked mediocre at times this year, but at least a bunch of bench players are getting extended PT. K is only playing 7 or so players in the bigger games. Roy appears to be having a questionable coaching year to many, but the more I watch the more I see that he is just developing a tremendously deep bench. Foul trouble and injuries are only a problem if Drew goes out. Yes, that is a problem, but I do like the option of shuffling so many big men with more experience in when the time is needed. When Scheyer goes out, Duke will struggle, with empty shoes.

Duke will challenge for the NC next year, and they had better hope they get it that soon. Unfortunately for you guys, you will be challenging a loaded UNC next year with experience, and the year after that you can forget about beating UNC. Last night UNC proved that all that they really need is the point to play with some more confidence. Drew can do it; I just don't think he knows he can do it yet. I think his dad from the pros stays in his ear too much. If UNC hits from the perimeter like they did last night then they may just be able to hang with most teams this year.

Do you mean consecutive games like in the ACC Tournament? Thats the only tournament that Duke participates in that 3 consecutive days of play is required.

Or if you're talking NCAA the reason they haven't advance past the 2nd round is because they simply haven't been good enough, has nothing at all to do with legs.

If you're old enough and paid attention enough, you know Duke has never played over 8 players fro 10+ minutes on the average, but yet have made many FF appearances, and actually won 3 national championships.

Nothing to do with tired legs my friend, everything to do with talent. Not a PG worth a crap since Chris Duhon, not a big man worth a crap since Shelden Williams.

Thats all a changing, sit back and pay attention.

Duke will challenge for the NC in 2011, mark it down, take it to the bank, cash the check.

Same story, different season for the Blue Devils, and it doesn't bode well.

Duke will have "relative" success, but when they are forced into multiple game situations within a short time frame, their legs give way. They can only ride Singler and Scheyer so far....when it's tournament time, they will get overmatched with a more athletic team that will take their legs away. For those who haven't been paying attention, this is why Duke hasn't won a regional in the past 7 years.

Carolina, OTOH, is a very young team that is learning. They kind of have the opposite problem of Duke, except this year UNC is thin on the perimeter. I personally am enjoying watching the growth this year, as UNC just won a NC, and looks to be improving, especially with regard to the freshmen. Strickland will be good, so will McDonald. Next year, and the year after that, you better watch out because UNC will be seriously good.

Good to see you again Yanks.. What happened to you when the tarholes lost to College Of Charleston?? I figured Duke would lose to GT since Georgia beat GT earlier this past week. I seen it coming. GT like Wisconsin is a tough out at home. At least GT is ranked unlike COC!!
