I'm still trying to figure out who College Of Charleston is and how they have a .500 record against the tarholes all time with a 3-3 record?? Looks to me like roy VERTIGO williams is falling apart along with his team all-american flunkies!!! GO DUKE!!!!

Duke is better this year and will be next year as well.

UNC has talented big guys but they are all soft, not a hard body on the team.

UNC fans want to talk about next season, well next season the Tar Heels will be starting 3 or possibly even 4 freshman.

Roy Williams has never been a great in game coach, he is one heck of a recruiter, no denying that, but he cannot coach during the game. He's proven that time and time again.

I really believe that it still hasn't sunk into a lot of Heels fans heads just exactly how fortunate they were having both Lawson and Hansbrough together for 3 consecutive seasons.

Those 2 are among the best ever to suit them up for the Heels at their respective positions. You don't replace those overnight and fact is they may never have players at those two positions as good as those two again.

UNC will always be good, they always have been minus a season or two, but it may never return to as easy as it was last season.

Its just the facts.

Great Job UNC, losing to a team that north high could beat....hahahahahahaha

Nice side rant. I totally agree. Suck it up and play. Part of being an athlete is having to play under uncomfortable circumstances sometimes. In all sports. Lawson stayed out more than he should have last year with the toe issue because he had anxiety, not because his toe wasn't ready (it was bad at first). Maybe the key is that Roy and the players need a better team psychologist. I'd just like to see more emotion and outrage during the game and not just in retrospect afterwards.

It's January. An out of conference loss to the College of Charleston is a wake-up call, but I'm not conceding the season just yet.

Much as Carolina will lose some games that will have you scratching your head, when it comes together they will have some unexpected victories as well. This year we are playing with house money. Relax and enjoy, I think UNC will adjust somewhat to the level of competition.

Side Rant: Carolina has to be the only team in the nation whose players need a half year off to overcome an ingrown toenail. I also am tired of Williams's "chicken wing" sling. It's cursed, and it needs to go.

That's why I said, "Unless Roy is sacrificing this year for experience". I still believe they will be untouchable next year when the puzzle comes together. I didn't expect them to be a Final Four team again this year, but I do think they should be performing much better than they are right now.

This maybe the year my Devils take their rightful spot back atop the ACC...

I do see where you said his system is failing "right now", but honestly, how many teams in America do you think would give their right arm for a "failing system" that wins 2 National Championships in the last five years?

You do realize that 80% of the teams' collective scoring was lost with the departure of Hansbrough, Green, Lawson, and Ellington, right?

Rome wasn't built in a day. Take a deep breath..this is a REBUILDING year. It will be ok - Roy doesn't have the highest winning average amongst active coaches because of dumb luck. Reloading is sometimes painful to watch, and there are better teams this year. That's just the way it is, but give it about two more years, then tell me what you think.

As good as Davis' numbers were last night, he blew in the last 3 minutes of the game (they all did). Davis missed very easy putbacks and crucial freethrow. I knew when he hit 8 of 10 from the line early, that no way would he hit both at crunchtime. He proved me right when he missed the first. I think Roy had counted on the Wear brothers contributing more this year. They look scared on the court. Henson will be great with that wingspan of his, but he settles for staying outside because he has no muscle to fight down low. I never thought I would miss Will Graves for anything, but they could have used him last night. I don't care about Ginyard. He is now overrated as a defensive player since missing last year. Drew and Strickland were playing better 3 weeks ago, but both suck now. With that many big guys, the point guard should be averaging 8 assists per game at least. Thompson had his flash of glory the first 2 weeks and is nonexistent now. If you take Zeller's hookshot away he is no help. I look at the number of fouls the UNC team had last night and can tell how unaggressive they have been playing. The starting frontline had 2 fouls total. Charleston was very aggressive and UNC did not put up a fight at all inside. UNC's points were coming inside because they were missing so many shots and were at least getting some rebounds. Unless Roy is sacrificing this year for experience, I just think his system is failing right now. Unless they have a major awakening in the coming month, I just see the ACC season being a bust for them. Motivation needs to come from something and somewhere. And crap! When you are down by 3 with 2 seconds left you need to shoot from behind the line, not drive for an easy layup that was missed. No leadership, confidence, awareness, chemistry, or brains on this team so far.

Well, the truth of the matter is, it's a rebuilding year, but you are going way overboard with your "assessment".

This is a very young team with seniors who are role players, not leaders. The leadership role has been forced upon them by default, and a lot of players are having to play out of position while trying to learn the speed and strength of the college game. This isn't a good thing in the January W-L column, but its necessary. Strickland isn't a point guard, and Henson isn't a wing, but when the personnel is there to support them playing their natural positions, they will be more skilled as a result of this.

When you are a freshman, it's pretty standard faire to play as if you still are a high school player at this point of the season. The exceptions are the John Walls and Derrick Favors, and there isn't a team in the nation who wouldn't give a nut to have them.

RIght now, Davis is the only star Carolina has shining, and he's somewhat quiet and introverted. A leader needs to emerge, and Ginyard and Thompson will not provide those qualities. Carolina has serious issues at guard. Drew isn't in the same league as Lawson and Felton, and Marshall, while a better and shooter, isn't really from that mold either.

Next year the Heels will be loaded, but still young. Who knows if Davis stays or goes? This year a Sweet Sixteen run would be welcomed, and it can happen. This team has beaten Michigan State, and Ohio State, and only lost to Kentucky by 2. It does seem that for whatever reason, it has regressed rather than improved.

Lastly, I'd like to say that if duke's crowning achievement is beating UNC, that may very well come to pass (several times) this year. However, with Kentucky, Texas, Purdue, Kansas, etc., there will be no NC for duke. They probably will win the ACC, and will have to be content with that. This is their moment in the sun...next year, it will be back to second fiddle for them.

Remember, 2 National Championships in the last 5 years...and voted by all the experts who KNOW, the best basketball program in America.

Go Heels!

UNC is definitely looking poor right now. Hate to admit it, but Duke has pulled a TEAM together. I'll be glad when UNC can find some chemistry. I think it goes beyond just youth. I think maybe Roy needs to change the system a bit more to suit the players he's got. Also time to let them play longer together to give them a chance to develop some familiarity with teammates. None of them really know what they are doing in game situations right now. I'm not giving up on them; they will get there. If I didn't know better, it almost seems like some point-shaving going on. Curious about the gambling habits of some of the guys that are playing so stupidly. I might be joking a bit, but man they are disappointing. I wrote some more earlier on a different thread.

This team has no floor leader even with Ginyard in the game they struggle. Drew has shown little sign that he will step up and be the leader at the point that the team needs. They are now 1-4 away from the Dean Dome. Grant it 3 of those 4 loses were to top 10 teams but a team with UNC's talent should have not gotten beat at CofC if they had some leadership on the floor. They seem to think that a team will roll over when they see the name on the uniform but thats not gonna ever happen, They need to step up and realize that they are going to get the other teams best every single night and they need to give the same in return. If it wasn't for Davis last night the game would have never even made it to overtime.

From watching the unc system for a long time .Roy will make the guys adjust to his system instead of adjusting to their talent ,i always think unc is overrated in the early season then they prove out in the end as being worthy of the ranking

Note from GoWilkes: a portion of this post was removed that was off topic.

I've been around Tarheel basketball for a long time (35 years or so) and this year's team has turned into the worst playmaking UNC team I've ever seen. That includes the team that only won single digits during Matt Doherty's term. No leader; no enthusiasm; no sense of urgency; questionable use of players by Roy. I know he tries to pick the best 7 or 8 for the conference season by changing lineups a lot early on, but I think it's time for him to just let 6 or 7 play together for most of a game. He's not letting them create any team chemistry. Talent means nothing if they can't play well together. It goes beyond Ginyard and Graves being out. They have pretty much sucked since the first half of the Michigan State game. Thompson has disappeared (like he usually does mid-season). No one has enough focus to hit 2 freethrows or an easy put-back or layup. Yes they are young, but Roy really needs to adapt his system to what he has right now. The conference season will get away from them. Duke is developing a really good team chemistry at this point. From what I've been seeing, Duke could beat UNC by 40. I hope it isn't so , but struggling against Albany, Marshall, College of Charleston, and others ain't looking good. I've said from the beginning that they are overrated in the top 10, but I had no idea I would be saying that still at this point in the season. The players need to start playing like they are in college and forget about high school.
