Ashe has a tremendous advantage in size and being the only high school in the county plus being located near a town ,,,,,by the way Mtn Airy recruits from the Virginia area and gets a couple of the good north surry and surry central athletes ever year

If a student in Wilkes transfers in county they have to sit out a season unless they move into district of the school they transfer to. County policy.

Ashe may have the bigger numbers, however they are limited to just the good 'ole boys who want to participate in athletics (which numbers are declining) that live in Ashe County. I do not think it is fair that Wilkes County allows athletes to hop from one school to another just because of that particular schools successful reputation of each individual sport. When I was growing up, that was called "stacking" the team. If you live in that particular school district, then that is the school that you attend. That to me is just as much as an unfair advantage as school size.

School size has everything to do with it .. for example : East wilkes 500 kids Ashe 1000 that's around 250 more boys to choose from .. its not apples to apples.. So ashe should consistently have a better Team automatically.. Then coaching comes into play some....

School size really has nothing to do with talent. Just look at North Surry vs Mount Airy every year. North Surry, In the same county as Mount Airy and over twice the amount of students NEVER beats the Bears. Its about demographic. They don't have the same caliber athletes in that school even though they are twice the size and in the same county. The reality is, Wilkes Central always has the best athletes and should win the league every year. Also, according to the ADM's Central only has around 20 less total kids than Ashe.

They should be every year. Its too big of a school against all these smaller schools not to win it consistently.

Now pay your head coach!! That should be the #1 goal of the school board in order to keep him around he needs to be paid. I hope they don’t loose him!!

Huge congrats to the undefeated Ashe County Huskies for an excellent conference season! I love how you were no where recognized as the top "dog" of the conference in the start of the season, yet you conquered every opponent every week as a team that works well together and not against each other. I believe I remember reading at one time someone had posted that Ashe did not have the STUD athletes. I think I can sit back and still laugh at that comment, only in a whole new prospective. Way to go Ashe- it's finally your turn!
