i got some steam bags this weekend, i've only used them for broccoli and corn on the cob

i've been staying away from starch as much as possible but my kids loved it and the broccoli was so easy to fix and tasted better to me them steaming in a pot (i always over cook it)

Bushy I can't wait to hear how you liked it. Let us know exactly how you cooked the chicken please.

Bought a box yesterday ,I'm planning tonights menu now.
I'll let you know how it turns out.
So far looks like mixed veggies ,marinated chicken breast tenders and a low fat sauce on the side.

hey dadyy, steam works great on pork chops and is so healthy. the problem is avoiding the "boiled" taste and texture.
what i do is season and sear the meat in a skillet. after this is done, turn the heat up to med-hi, and put an ice cube in the skillet, and cover. this way, the steam will permeate and quickly cook the meat, without the meat having to sit and boil. add another ice cube as needed until done...but one at a time. when meat is nearly done, remove from heat and allow to rest. the residual heat will finsih cooking it without over cooking. keep a close eye on the pan, because in between ice cubes, it can scortch. remember to turn at least onec.
i takes longer to read about it than to actually do it, so good luck!

I'm on a low cholesterol, high fiber diet and have found these steam bags to be a great aide. I cooked sweet potatoes in one tonight. Just added a heaping tsp of splenda and a sprinkle of butter sprinkle buds (artificial flavor, no added calories.) Great!

Also, we have been cooking potatoes in them. Peel, slice 1/3 to 1/2" thick, add artificial butter buds--just a sprinkle, dash of garlic salt, about 1/2 tsp "It's a Dilly" powder. Steam for 5 minutes. Let set for 2 minutes before opening bag. Tastes just like oven roasted potatoes. Minimal calories, lots of vitamin C, potassium, fiber.

I did a comparison with steamer bags of vegetables already prepared versus the mixed vegetables we prepare in the bags. Including the bag in the cost, the total cost is still about half. Flavor is wonderful. Not necessary to add water and the veggies or fruits are special.

I have not tried meat in them but the vegetables I have fixed in them have been great. We have used them for broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower. Just put the veggies in the bag and cook the minutes it says on the bag. They are perfect everytime.

I bought some of the large Ziploc steam bags and cooked some vegetables and chicken in them. The chicken was delicious. I added a little lemon juice and lemon pepper. I was wondering what other things you could cook in the bags. I know that fish would be good, but would boneless pork chops? I have never heard of steamed pork chops but I was thinking of perhaps cutting up an apple and put that in the bag with some brown sugar. Any ideas or tips would be appreciated.
