I recently had an absolutely perfect filet at Texas Roadhouse in Hickory.

I actually have the opposite worry: that we have so many that they won't prosper enough! Here are the places that I eat regularly:
- Key City Grille Excellent filet, cut in-house. Get it cooked medium rare, and order a glass of shiraz to go with it; nothing too bold, but fairly dry.
- Applewood Bistro I recommend going on Friday night, when Prime Rib is the special. Get it cooked rare, but then have it blackened; because it's blackened it will come out a litle more done than rare would usually be, but the seasoning really makes it worthwhile!
Ask for a fairly spicy shiraz. This should be a little more bold than what you would drink with a filet.
- Branciforte's This is an authentic Italian, which means that there aren't as many pasta dishes as I would like. I don't go there often, mainly because I've been going through a steak-craving phase lately, but they're still good.
- 6th & Main I really haven't been here in awhile, either. I try to go when they have Tuna Steaks on special; get them cooked rare or medium rare, and you'll usually have mashed potatoes and asparagus on the side. I don't usually care for dry white wines, so I just drink tea with this meal.
- Elkin Creek Winery If you drink wine, I highly recommend Elkin Creek Winery. They're on the outskirts of Wilkes, right between Wilkes and Surry, and in a very rural location. But their chef is top-notch, and can make dishes specially paired with the wine that you like. You'll need to make a reservation a week or two ahead of time, but it's highly recommended.
- Don's Seafood & Steakhouse I know, most people don't consider Don's in the list of "fine dining", and it's not really an upscale dining (no wine selection). But they have the BEST salmon filet! Get it cooked medium and blackened.
There are probably more, but these are the ones that immediately came to mind. If anyone else has any recommendations, please post them!
